This week, Cogden class focused on Wildlife and Senses during Forest School. We discussed our 5 senses that we use as humans and compared them to other animals. We also discussed a couple of senses animals might have that we don’t e.g. Bats use echolocation. We played several games to test our senses. Rats and Rabbits tested our sense of hearing, along with rob the nest. We also played Bat and Moth too to experience echolocation! The session continued into activities with a senses scavenger hunt and mouse house challenge. The engagement from all was great and once again we enjoyed free exploring time using rope ladders and swings.

A massive WELL DONE to everyone who took part and supported our Sports Day on Tuesday! The children were amazing and tried their best in every event. Thank you to the PTFA for supplying us with a much needed ice lolly at the end.

Monmouth class had an amazing trip on Wednesday to the Yeovilton Fleet Air Arm Museum. We got to see real Navy planes that had been used over the years, walk through Concorde, sit in a few cockpits and ended our time with a play in the park. What a brilliant day!

I have to say, what a wonderful, respectful and creative class Cogden are! We went exploring down to Wellplot yesterday. Before we left we had a 3-minute supermarket sweep around forest school for resources, then made our way down to Wellplot to build bridges and boats in small groups. The class were only allowed natural resources, string and eco-tape to construct. They did incredibly well, and we tested the boats in the stream (Mrs Surtees had to rescue a couple of shipwrecks!). We also tested to see how strong the bridges were and both were a great success! No two creations were the same, the resourcefulness was innovative, and the atmosphere created a wonderful Wednesday afternoon.

Many hands make light work! Whether it was eco club, Cogden forest school session or after school club, all children took so much responsibility and pride in their forest school area today. The bug hotel was relocated, den building sticks chopped, wood store restocked and new additions added – a swing and rope ladder! The team work and communication between all groups was incredible to ensure everyone stayed safe whilst using tools.

In Monmouth this week, we have been thinking about what it would be like to be a pilot in the RAF during WW2. We have enjoyed reading our new book 'Tail-End Charlie' and are now planning the details we could include in a letter home to loved ones. Fabulous ideas have been flowing!

When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it, or it's been deleted.

Wednesday was Monmouth’s final session. However, we had A LOT of fun! We started with a game of Strike, Smoke, Fire (aka zip, zap, boing). Monmouth class then had a go themselves and some were successful at lighting fairy fires! We also had a go with a battery and wire wool. It was fascinating to watch the energy travel through the wire. We ended the session with S’mores and Cinnamon sugar apples – YUM!

In Monmouth this week we have been cooking our French Patisserie Tarts. We made the delicious pastry cream on Monday and then created our masterpieces on Tuesday. Everyone did amazingly well and they were all delicious! Great job Monmouth!

We have been for a 2km walk today through our beautiful countryside as Rev. Chris is raising money for Christian Aid by walking 70k in May. We thought about what it would be like to have to walk that far to fetch water for your family and how heavy it would feel. If you want to support him, see the QR code or the link in the comments. Good luck with the rest of your 70km Rev. Chris!

Today, Chesil had a visit from Marie from Animals2U South West! Marie brought in 4 animals from different habitats around the world. They were Milly the millipede, Skippy the tree frog, Mikey the corn snake and Faye the polecat. She taught us lots about these animals, like where they live and what they eat and then everyone got to touch or hold the animals if they wanted! All the children showed our value of respect towards the animals and listened very carefully!

Bridport Community Fair is this weekend, so Monmouth class have been preparing forest school creations to raise money for Loders forest school. The children worked incredibly hard to make mindfulness rocks, gods eyes, journey sticks and pencils! We are really excited to hear how they do at the fair! Come and see the Primary Forest School stand to donate and choose your forest school creation to take home!

Forest School VE Day Celebration! Yesterday Monmouth class began the lesson with a tactical teamwork game called Capture the Flag followed by an attention and endurance game called Survivor. The remaining of the session Monmouth class had the choice of making bunting, a traditional VE Day decoration; flags using calico, pens and a stick; and rafts as this was a mode of transport that would’ve been used during the war. We even tested the rafts to see if they would float on water. Lots of them were successful but some unfortunately capsized!
