CD Launch of ‘Count On Me’

Our talented pupils have launched the much-awaited song they recorded to raise money for McMillan Cancer Support.  The CD was released at the School’s annual Christmas Fair on the 5th December.  The track the pupils picked to record was the Bruno Mars’ track, Count On Me because, they said, “it felt like the perfect song.”   The song was recorded at the Shooting Gallery Studios in Loders in July.  The track will be played on local radio, with its first airing on Friday 11th December at 8am on Wessex FM.

None of this would have been possible without local recording studio owners, Rosie Smith and Pablo Bedford, who gave generously of their time, equipment and expertise, tutoring the children every step of the way.  Heartfelt appreciation is extended to the Bridport Round Table for sponsoring the entire cost of making the CD.  Thanks too to parent Jen Burden for bringing the original concept to the school and for her continued help and support and to James O’Neill and Wessex FM for giving it some welcome air-time.

Copies of the CD are available from the school office at £5 each.

Diwali in Woodpeckers

On 11th November the Woodpeckers festooned themselves in Indian dress to experience the Hindu Diwali – the Festival of Light.

They enjoyed Indian food tasting, including naan, lime pickle, poppadoms and mango chutney.  They looked at Rangoli patterns and Dayi light painting, as well as Melindi hands – the tradition of decorating the palms with intricate designs.

Jackdaws visit to the Fleet Air Arm Museum

The Jackdaws visited the Fleet Air Arm Museum on Remembrance Day.  They were given talks on the Battle of Britain;  their topic this term, and other aspects of World War II.  They walked around the displays and clambered over a fair few, as well as enjoying the simulated helicopter ride and experiencing how it feels to be standing on the deck of an aircraft carrier.

Along with staff and other museum visitors they joined in the two minutes silence at 11am.

Here they are pictured in front of a Vickers’ Walrus.
